The designs are graded for -
Visual Style:
Do they make your eyes feel just damn good. It's no
good being from the future if you look like you walked
out of an all-night disco.
Functional Grace:
Does the design work on a functional level. Does it
look like the designer put the buttons and doors on as
an afterthought. Look for spaceships with out-of-scale
pipe work, or wings on ships that clearly don't do nuthin
in the lift making department.
Coherence:
We've all seen SF movies where a nice piece of design
work sticks out like a swelling red thumb. Does the design
sit seamlessly into the the bigger picture?
