The Devonshire quarter was an industrial
area of the city during the late 19th century. While many
of works buildings from this era still stand on nearby
backstreets. the Devonshire quarter, with its central
green is currently looking very shiny.
The blue building on the left, on the above photo is the
Forum,
it's a two-storey Cafe Bar and specialist retail centre.
It was opened in 1992 and was pretty much the frontrunner
to the current urban renaissance.
Below is the Devonshire green, just out-of-shot, to the
left is a skateboarding park. Ahead are the new Devonshire
Green appartments. Very smart, very expensive. If
you want to live right in the middle of the action, yet
enjoy moments of serenity (illustrated by the young ladies
on the grass, below) then you are going to accept the
hefty price tag. |

Running
parallel to West Street is the Devonshire Quarter,
trendy shops, bars and galleries. Modelling itself
as a sheek urban village, the Devonshire Quarter
might be thought of as Sheffield very own Greenwich
Village. (It used to be Ecclesall Road but thats
just too far from the centre).
