| Most of Sheffields Highstreet shopping
takes place along Fargate and on The Moor. Fargate was
pedestrianised in the 1970s. Although quite without distinction
as a shopping area, it has become reknown in the marketing
world as the "average" highstreet. For this
reason armies of market researchers guard the top end,
waiting to assail passers by with questions about their
larger drinking, shampooing buying, sexual fidelity habits.
The photograph above is take from the bottom end of Fargate,
at this end political activists pray on anyone who hasn't
been caught by the marketeers. |

The
shopping heartland of Sheffield, though much of
its lustre has been lost since the opening of the
Meadow Hall Shopping Centre, on the edge of the
City. No more do visitors from the surrounding region
come to Sheffield City Centre for their shopping
needs.
